Description: This course is designed to increase participants’ awareness of the dangers of working near power lines and how to prevent injury and death due to this work. It teaches the participants how to work safely near power lines by recognizing hazards and putting controls in place to prevent injury to people and property damage. Upon successful completion of this course, the worker will be able to:
Discuss the need for power line hazards training
Recognize power line structures
Distinguish between conductors and insulators
Identify characteristics of electricity
Identify how electricity travels
Discuss the effects of electricity
Identify steps in the emergency response to contact with power lines
Use sections of the OH&S Regulations to answer practical questions dealing with power line hazards
Review employers’ and workers’ rights and responsibilities
